STRESS AND DEPRESSION

A sufficient number of essential oils have anti-depressant properties, which makes aromatherapy the most helpful to modern society as a safe, natural and non-addictive alternative to the millions of pills prescribed each year for depression or anxiety. Almost all citrus can be assigned to this category. Also, bergamot oil is widely known as an anti-depressant, it is fresh smelling and uplifting, but you can also use neroli, essential oils of basil, chamomile, clary sage, pelargonium, jasmine, lavender, lemon balm, patchouli, rose, sandalwood and frankincense.

- There can be various forms of depression, it can be caused by many reasons, but the generous Mother Nature has not spared us plants that help to overcome this disorder.

A person who is depressed, tired, and lethargic would be unwise to use an oil with sedative properties. On the other hand, if the expression of depression is anxiety, excessive irritability and insomnia, the mentioned oil would be just right. Chamomile, clary sage, lavender, sandalwood, and frankincense oils have calming and anti-depressant properties, while bergamot, geranium, lemon balm, and rose oils are uplifting but non-sedating.
